The Board of Directors of the J.E.B. Stuart Birthplace Preservation Trust, Inc., is pleased to announce the commission of noted sculptor Allen F. Weidhaas of Stuart, Virginia.
After much agonizing about an earlier equestrian design that portrayed the General at the peak of his career, the focus has been placed "closer to home"; Laurel Hill is where the noted Civil War figure was born and raised for the first part of his life, therefore, the sculpture shall reflect the beginning rather than the end (however glorious!).
As shown below, a direct Stuart descendant posed at Laurel Hill for modeling photographs and Mr. Weidhaas has sculpted a scale model of the future statue. When enough funds are raised, a larger-than-life bronze likeness of Young JEB will greet visitors as they arrive at Laurel Hill.
You can help make this a reality by donating to the Memorial Fund. Click Here for more information.
